DETROIT (CBS Detroit) A 3-year-old was removed from her home by Child Protective Services after police said she was found Friday wandering around Pontiac.

An investigation revealed the child was one of 11 in the home, ranging in age from 9 months to 16 years old.

“Deputies observed that the condition of the residence was deplorable with no running water,” the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.

Police were alerted to the incident when a call came in about a small child wandering alone in the 200 block of Ottawa, knocking on doors and trying to enter parked vehicles. The child appeared to be in good condition, deputies said.

Officers were able to find her house, and her parents, 39 and 40 years old, said they had 11 children at home and “did not realize that she was missing,” deputies said.
