International Manhunt on for British “White Widow” Spotted at Kenya Mall Massacre: Interpol Red Notice Issued

A British or Irish woman believed to be involved in the Kenyan Mall massacre is wanted  by Interpol and an international RED NOTICE has now been issued for her arrest.  29 year old British national Samantha Lewthwaite is wanted by Interpol after witnesses and video-cams caught her entering the mall among the other Somali terrorists during the recent Kenya mall massacre. Lewthwaite has been dubbed the “White Widow.” Bomb making materials were found in her Mombasa Kenya apartment in 2011.  Lewthwaite escaped before officials could arrest her in 2011 in Mombasa. Help Interpol locate her by re-posting and re-circulating this information.

  • Red notices alert police that a person is wanted
  • Samantha Lewthwaite has been dubbed the “White Widow”
  • Al-Shabaab gunmen stormed a mall in Kenya last weekend

(CNN) — Interpol said Thursday it issued a red notice for Samantha Lewthwaite, the so-called “White Widow,” at the request of Kenyan authorities.

Reports that a white woman was among the terrorists who stormed a mall in Nairobi last weekend have prompted a slew of media speculation about Lewthwaite, a British woman whose husband was one of the suicide bombers in the 2005 London terror attacks.

Known as the “White Widow,” Lewthwaite, 29, has been wanted by international counter-terrorism officials since authorities found bomb-making materials in her Mombasa, Kenya, apartment in 2011. She vanished shortly before a raid.

Red notices issued by the international police agency alert law enforcement around the world that a person is wanted, but they are not arrest warrants.

“By requesting an Interpol Red Notice, Kenya has activated a global ‘tripwire’ for this fugitive,” said Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.

“Through the Interpol Red Notice, Kenyan authorities have ensured that all 190 member countries are aware of the danger posed by this woman, not just across the region but also worldwide,” he said.

A senior Kenyan official said Tuesday a woman was involved in the attack. Another official said Wednesday that authorities can’t say much about who the woman was or what she was doing.

Al-Shabaab gunmen stormed the Westgate mall Saturday. At least 67 people were killed and as many as 63 people are still unaccounted for.

50% of All Thefts in San Francisco Are Smart Phones, National Theft Epidemic Prompts Prosecutors to Push For Smart Phone ‘Kill Switch’

Every year it gets worse.  Innocent people are often maimed for life when they get slashed up during an Iphone robbery. It eventually gets to be “not such a smart idea” to stand on a street corner and use your Iphone. The thefts are not new of course, but they are getting bolder and more frequent. When 50% of all street crime in a given U.S. city [ in this case, San Fran ] is smart phone theft, you know it’s getting really bad. I gathered some video of the escalating trend of smart phone theft from the past few years to illustrate the point. All in all, it becomes a case of “be careful when and where you use it” if you want to keep your face, your life and your Iphone.

SAN FRANCISCO | Wed Jun 5, 2013 9:48pm EDT

(Reuters) – In a push to curb cellphone thefts, prosecutors for New York state and the city of San Francisco said on Wednesday they plan to meet with industry representatives to urge them to install switches to disable stolen smartphones.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said they will meet on June 13 with representatives of the four largest smartphone manufacturers.

They said they will ask the industry to place “kill switches” on mobile devices to render them inoperable when stolen, eliminating any incentive for theft.

“With 1.6 million Americans falling victim to smartphone theft in 2012, this has become a national epidemic,” Gascon said in a statement. “Unlike other types of crimes, smartphone theft can be eradicated with a simple technological solution.”

Gascon and Schneiderman said representatives of Apple Inc, Google Inc’s smartphone maker Motorola Mobility, Samsung Electronics and Microsoft Corp would attend the summit in New York.

Last month, two men in San Francisco severely cut a 27-year-old tourist’s face and throat while robbing his iPhone. In April 2012, a 26-year-old chef was killed while being robbed of his iPhone on his way home to the Bronx.

“The theft of handheld devices is the fastest-growing street crime, and increasingly, incidents are turning violent,” Schneiderman said. “It’s time for manufacturers to be as innovative in solving this problem as they have been in designing devices that have reshaped how we live.”

Representatives for Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Google and a cellphone trade group either declined to comment or were not immediately available for comment.

Gascon and Schneiderman have both criticized the cellphone industry for what they perceive as its perceived unwillingness to solve the escalating problem.

About 50 percent of San Francisco robberies involved stolen mobile devices last year, Gascon said. A recent study found that lost and stolen cellphones cost consumers $30 billion in 2012, his office said.

Some companies have measures in place to reunite smartphones with their rightful owners. For instance, Apple has the application Find My iPhone which allows a user to track a missing device on a map and remotely lock it or erase data.

A nationwide database has been created for stolen cellphones, but law enforcement officials say its use is limited because many stolen devices are shipped overseas or modified so they cannot be easily identified as stolen, according to a New York Times report from May.

Miracle in Cleveland: Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight Rescued A Decade After They Were Kidnapped

Amanda Berry [ right ] grins and clutches her sister to her [ left] whom she has not seen in more than 10 years. The two sisters were re-united on May 6th when Amanda escaped her captors and called 9-11 with the help of neighbor Charles Ramsey.

Held Captive: Three Cleveland Women Had Been Bound with Ropes and Chains

Cited:  “The Castro brothers allegedly forced all three women to have sex, resulting in up to five pregnancies, according to a report by Cleveland’s WKYC-TV. The station, quoting unnamed law enforcement sources, reported that the Castros also beat the women while they were pregnant, with several fetuses not surviving. Police did not publicly confirm the report.

In addition, Khalid Samad, a former assistant safety director for the city, said law enforcement officials told him that the women were beaten while pregnant, with several miscarrying, and that a dungeon of sorts with chains was in the home.”

“Help me! I’m Amanda Berry …. I’ve been kidnapped and I’ve been missing for 10 years and I’m here. I’m free now,” Berry can be heard telling a 911 operator in a recording of the call released by police.

Gina DeJesus at the time of her capture

A house in Cleveland, Ohio, where three women , missing for more than a decade, escaped.

The house on 2207 Seymour Avenue in Cleveland Ohio where three local teens were held captive into their young adult years for a decade.

They were three young, beautiful carefree teenage girls who lived, went to school and worked in West Cleveland when their personal nightmares began.

Michelle Knight vanished first, without a trace in 2002. She was 19 years old when she disappeared.

Next, Amanda Berry had last been seen leaving the locale of her job at a local Burger King restaurant the day before her 17th birthday. She had just phoned her sister to tell her she would get a lift home from work. It was April 21st, 2003. The Iraq war had just begun in March one month earlier.

The third to be snatched off the street was Gina Dejesus, who was last seen walking home from her school in 2004. She was 14 years old.

Amanda  Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight had all ended up victims of a kidnapping in apparent plain view and were held prisoners, tied up, for a sickening ten years, bound and  held captive at 2207 Seymour Avenue in Cleveland Ohio.

Neighbors in Cleveland gather around for more details as a news conference is held to announce the capture of the perpetrators in the case.

The perpetrators were three brothers, school bus driver Ariel Castro, 52, and his two brothers, Pedro, 54, and Onil, 50. Incredibly, neighbors in the working-class district said they did not realize anybody was living at the house at 2207 Seymour Ave. How this could be is hard to fathom.

When Seymour Avenue neighbor Anna Tejeda was told that Amanda Berry had been rescued and was found alive, living as a kidnapping captive at 2207 Seymour Avenue close by, she replied, “You can’t be Amanda Berry. Amanda Berry is dead.”

“We didn’t look hard enough. She was right under our noses the whole time.” – neighborhood Pastor Angel Arroyo

In a heart wrenching twist, it turns out police had visited 2207 Seymour Avenue back in 2004. A child had been left behind by school bus driver Ariel Castro. Police visited his home to ask questions, knocked on the front door, got no answer and left. Inside, tied up, were the three kidnapping victims, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight. Several law enforcement officers broke down and cried when informed of the rescue of the three young women who had lost ten years of their lives due to their kidnapping by Castro and his brothers.

Map of Cleveland showing location of last sightings and house that the women were rescued from

In another ironic twist, the lead kidnapper Ariel Castro’s son, Anthony Castro, actually wrote an article about one of the kidnapping victims, Gina DeJesus, back in 2004.  It is believed he wrote the piece which was published by Plain Press as a classroom assignment. He apparently had no idea that his own father was the lead kidnapper and was holding DeJesus and two other women captive at 2207 Seymour.

The 3 kidnappers, brothers Ariel, Onlil and Petro Castro, have now been caught and now face prosecution for one of the most heinous kidnapping cases in Ohio history.

Born in Captivity at 2207 Seymour Avenue in Cleveland Ohio

One of the three kidnapped women had a child by one of her captors during the ten year ordeal, which was born and lived in captivity at the address where they were all kept prisoner. Now hospital records exist of the birth. Amanda Berry now has a six year old son, who was rescued along with the three women last night on May 6th.

Ms. Berry’s distraught mother did not live to see her daughter rescued and found alive.  She died in 2006 of heart failure, many saying she had died of a broken heart over Amanda’s disappearance. In one of the most “epic fails” of any professional psychic ever documented, charlatan faux clairvoyant Sylvia Browne publicly pronounced Amanda Berry dead on a TV broadcast in 2004:

“November 2004: Psychic Sylvia Browne tells the mother of Berry, Louwana Miller, that her daughter is dead and is “in water”. Appearing on The Montel Williams Show, Browne tells the mother: “She’s not alive, honey,” adding that she is “on the other side, in heaven”.

2 March 2006: Berry’s mother dies of heart failure. Her family blame her death on the stress of losing a daughter.”

May 6th 2013: West Cleveland neighbors rejoice when news breaks the three women have been found alive.

Yesterday on May 6th 2013 a neighbor on Seymour Avenue, Charles Ramsey, heard Amanda Berry screaming and trying to kick out the front door of 2207 Seymour from the inside out. Ramsey then helped Berry to kick the door out and get out of the house. Amanda Berry then makes what might end up being one of the most famous 911 calls ever recorded in Cleveland Ohio. Berry confirms to police that she is the missing woman, and says more women are being kept at the address. DeJesus, Knight and the six-year-old daughter of Berry emerge from the house and all are taken to the hospital to be examined. News coverage of this case is exploding today, and I will update this post as more is learned.

Timeline of the Cleveland Ohio Kidnapping Case of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight

Cleveland Ohio Area News Coverage of the Story

Cited:  “CLEVELAND: One neighbor says a naked woman was seen crawling on her hands and knees in the backyard of the house a few years ago. Another neighbor says he heard pounding on the doors and noticed plastic bags over the windows.

Police showed up at the house both times, the neighbors say, but never went inside.

Now, after three women who vanished separately about a decade ago were rescued from the peeling, rundown house Monday in a discovery that exhilarated and astonished the city, Cleveland police are facing questions about their handling of the case and are conducting an internal review to see if they overlooked anything.

Police Chief Michael McGrath said Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight had apparently been held captive in the house since their teens or early 20s.

Authorities arrested three brothers, ages 50 to 54. One of them, former school bus driver Ariel Castro, owned the home, situated in a poor neighborhood dotted with boarded-up houses. No immediate charges were filed.

The break in the case came when the 27-year-old Berry kicked out the bottom of a locked screen door at the home and used a neighbor’s telephone to call 911. Choking back tears, she breathlessly told the dispatcher: “Help me. I’m Amanda Berry. I’ve been kidnapped and I’ve been missing for 10 years and I’m, I’m here, I’m free now.”

Police arrived to find the two other women, along with a 6-year-old girl who authorities said was believed to Berry’s daughter. Police would not say who the father was or where the child was born.

“Prayers have finally been answered. The nightmare is over,” said Stephen Anthony, head of the FBI in Cleveland. “These three young ladies have provided us with the ultimate definition of survival and perseverance. The healing can now begin.”

He added: “Words can’t describe the emotions being felt by all. Yes, law enforcement professionals do cry.”

Authorities would not say how the women were taken captive, whether they were restrained inside the house or if they had been sexually assaulted. Police said they were trying to be delicate in their questioning of the women, given their ordeal.”

North Korea: Korean American Tourist Arrested, Tried for Taking Photos of Conditions, Sentenced to 15 Years Hard Labor

Updated on May 2nd 2013

The man who was arrested in North Korea in the story I reported on last week has been tried and sentenced to 15 years hard labor, in an update posted today by the BBC.

North Korea sentences US citizen to 15 years’ hard labour

Earlier this week I had written:

“North Korea Charges American With Plotting to Topple It’s Government”

Earlier this week I had reported …

The Ultimate Cautionary Tale from North Korea:  Korean-American  Arrested for Taking Photos & Video of Actual Conditions in North Korea,  Now Faces Possible Death Penalty

North Korea AmericanHeld.jpg

A photograph of the austere courtroom in North Korea where Bae will be tried. There is a possible death penalty associated with his alleged crimes. Many western writers feel Bae is, of course, being used as a pawn in the deadly game which North Korea is playing, attempting once again to extort food aid from the West by creating high drama trumped up “incidents” such as Bae’s arrest last November.

I’m not sure why this news story has languished in the shadows since last November, [ cough… more blacklisted news ]  but apparently a Korean-American tourist, 44 year old Kenneth Bae, who took photos of homeless children and gathered video evidence of public executions in Pyongyang was arrested last November by North Korean authorities and has been in a North Korean prison since then. Bae is soon to be tried for his alleged “crimes” against North Korea and the story is finally leaking out. I found the report today on Reuters. Bae’s crime was taking photos and video recordings of the actual conditions existent in North Korea, in other words, he dared to record and make a visual record of actuality in the starving oppressed nation.

Accused: American tour guide Kenneth Bae faces the death penalty in North Korea for allegedly photographing starving orphans

Kenneth Bae

“Friends and colleagues described Bae as a devout Christian from Washington state but based in the Chinese border city of Dalian who traveled frequently to North Korea to feed the country’s orphans.”

Why did this story take nearly 5 months to appear in the American news media?

Apparently I am one of the few Americans [ and a citizen reporter ] whose senses have not been so dulled by our daily deluge of meaningless American TV programming and all-consuming distractions, that I still give a damn about a nation of 24 million people whose suffering is so great it is almost impossible to fathom. So I do something which many would consider foolish, even futile.

I report on North Korea in the hope, partially, that I might inspire other American news bloggers to do the same [ we are still a small outpost at this time ] and that I might eventually shame the Big Media networks into reporting this awful awful ongoing and heinous story to the American people, raising enough of an outcry and a clamor for justice that something might shift in the Southeast Asian landscape, which is now littered with more than 3 million dead North Koreans and more dying daily.

Here’s the Reuters report I found on 04.27.2013:

Australia’s Crown Casino Taken for 33 Million Dollars in “Oceans Eleven” Style Betting Scam

I’m not supposed to love this news story, but I utterly and absolutely LOVE this story. I just can’t help it. Life DOES imitate art, LOL!  The House didn’t win this time, hey mate?

If you are a fan of the wildly successful “Oceans” film franchise, you already know the story line, perhaps all three. There are three films to date in the franchise, “Oceans Eleven, Oceans Twelve, and Oceans Thirteen.”

George Clooney and Brad Pitt lead a disturbingly likeable gang of super-skilled elite thugs [ including a Chinese acrobat and a smartly dressed elder who dons a toupee, a faux British accent and pretends to be the “5 star hotel inspector”] on a wild crime caper which includes breaking into a top Las Vegas hotel’s security system, compromising their security cameras and replacing real surveillance footage with their own  video loops instead. No one is the wiser until the entire escapade has been pulled off, robbing the casino of 160 million dollars in cash. The Ocean Elevens gang actually strut out the door dressed as SWAT team members carrying the loot, get into a SWAT van, and drive away into the sunset. Fans of the films [ like me ] can’t get enough of these movies, and look forward to “Oceans Fourteen’s” debut at some point soon.

Is there a movie in this for the Aussies? Who knows. Since this caper will go down in history as the most expensive accidental PR campaign ever to appear in the world media, I figure the very least I can do is to include some splashy photos of the incredibly plush, swank casino resort.

What a way to get the face of your casino in the public eye. Here’s looking at you to Melbourne Australia’s Crown Casino.

Australian casino hit by ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ scam

MELBOURNE: Australia’s largest casino has alerted police to a betting scam in which a high-roller reportedly netted Aus $32 million (US$33 million) in an “Ocean’s Eleven” style heist.

Melbourne’s Herald-Sun newspaper Friday said a foreigner staying at the Crown Casino was involved in the sting which it believes accessed the venue’s own surveillance cameras, which are constantly trained on players and croupiers.

Information gleaned from the images taken by the high-resolution cameras was apparently signalled to the high-roller as he played cards, the paper said, comparing it to Hollywood blockbuster “Ocean’s Eleven”.

In the 2001 comedy-crime caper Brad Pitt and George Clooney also recruit someone familiar with security to rob a series of Las Vegas casinos.

Crown said a staff member from the VIP gambling area had been sacked and the patron involved banned after the scam was uncovered several weeks ago, the newspaper added.

Victoria state police said they had been informed of the incident.

Deakin University’s Linda Hancock, who has written a book about Crown, said surveillance cameras were throughout the casino but even more intensified in the premium areas.

“There’s someone in monitoring rooms looking at them in real time,” she told the ABC.

“So they must have picked up that there was a winning streak here that looked suspicious and zoomed in on it and then been able to look at what was going on in real time in the room.”

Reports said Crown believed it could recover a significant portion of the money. -AFP

If nothing else you see or read online about Islam in America moves you to ACT, this article ought to. This has to be stopped. The advocacy of armed Jihad against Americans made in speeches by Muslims living on American soil needs to become a criminal offense, legally punishable. Oh but wait. Don’t we already have those laws on the books? Isn’t is ALREADY a felony offense to make an open death threat? Therefore wouldn’t it be an even more GRAVE felony offense if you openly incited death via Jihad against an entire community, namely Christians, who are Americans, or any other nationality as well?  What is happening to our law enforcement and legal system? How was this hate speech EVER allowed to take place, much less inside a taxpayer support American public high school?

Public Phone Talk NonStop: Crime Wave of Smart Phone Thefts Sweeps Nation

Fall 2012

It’s a pet peeve of mine. I happen to deplore being forced to listen to a total stranger’s personal cell phone conversation by mere public proximity.

I am pretty sure I decided this after being inadvertently subjected to a 40 minute dissertation on the finer points of lesbian S&M sex, blood letting and all, while dining out one night in Seattle in the late 1990s. A group of four women were sitting one booth over from mine in a popular Capitol Hill eatery, and they were not only having an open discussion about this topic over dinner, but talking to someone on the phone about it at the same time. TMI ladies. Enough.

Fast forward to 2012:  It’s the greatest case made yet for encouraging chattterbox Americans everywhere to “hang up” and cease & desist talking on their cell phonesnon-stop in public places. Police departments across the country have noticed a sharp upward spike in thefts of smart phones this fall, following on the heels of the release of the new IPhone 5 and other popular new phone models.

In New York City, 40% of all reported robberies are smart phone thefts. In San Francisco, 50% of all reported crimes are related to stolen smart phones. Cell phone theft in Los Angeles has spiked 27% since the same time last year. 25% of all crimes in L.A. are now smart phone thefts. Police departments are overwhelmed with these burgeoning cases, and the probability of recovering all of the stolen phones is very low.  NYPD cops stated in an interview that they have recovered exactly ONE stolen smart phone in 6 years. Some phones have clever apps that will help locate them, but not all.

As most young people now carry the digital footprint of their entire lives on their smart phones, if the phone is snatched they become instant targets for home invasion, identity theft, kidnapping, rape, child abduction, blackmail, extortion and every other felony offense that can be committed due to suddenly acquiring the entire personal life dossier of a total stranger whose cell phone you have just stolen. Home addresses, bank account data, employment data, Paypal account data, photos of close friends and family, [ including all the women and girls in the family ] every bit of private data imaginable that is pertinent or personal to the owner is stashed away on their smart phone. It’s a hardened criminal’s dream come true cornucopia of possible looting and ransacking to grab one of these gadgets then bolt away and disappear.

In San Francisco smart phone owners have had their phones grabbed out of their hand while they were still talking while sitting on a city bus or transit, then stunned with their jaw still on the floor watched helplessly as the perpetrator jumped off the train or bus and disappeared into the crowded street. That ought to teach anyone a hard earned lesson about yammering incessantly on their phone in crowded public places.

It’s a wake up call, pun fully intended.

The smartest thing a smart phone user can do is NOT to talk on their phones while in a crowded public place. But do you think these “phone addicted” people are going to do that? Probably not.

So since the American public most likely won’t stop talking everywhere in public on their phones, they might at least make an effort to use some modicum of whatever remaining common sense is still left in them, that has not drained into the electronic bowels of their “smart phones.” Here are some of my ideas for this dilemma:

Consider the following safety tips to keep your phone in your own possession, and not lose it to the scabby 92 lb. meth head who follows you to the bus stop everyday:

  1. If you MUST make a phone call in public, step into a ladies or men’s room, check to see how many people are in there before you do, and make the call from inside one of the stalls. If the restroom is crowded, find another private discreet spot – away from crowds of strangers.
  2. Delay non-urgent calls, walk to your car, get in your car, lock your car – [ do not start or drive your car, that’s a no-no] and make your call while locked in your car.
  3. Look around you and keep your awareness UP [ not head down on the phone ] while you walk city streets. It’s child’s play for a crook to snatch a smart phone, as most people now walk along urban streets and parks with their heads down, looking at their cell phones. If someone had been following them for 3 city blocks they would most likely never even notice it. Turn your phone OFF and look around you while you traverse the city on foot.
  4. If you discover that someone you don’t know is following you, do the absolute opposite of what you would imagine you should do [ which is to speed up your steps and try to get away ].  Instead – stop in mid-step, turn and walk slowly past your follower, and look them dead in the eye for as long as you can to memorize their face really well, which will stun and unnerve the stalker. Then turn into the first store front you find, whether you intended to shop there or not. Go straight to the nearest clerk or manager, [discreetly] and ask them to let you out the back door. Tell them you suspect you are being tailed by a possible attacker and you need a safe exit. No one will refuse to help you slip out the back door and make a safe exit. I’ve had to do this before to lose a stalker and it works. Remember this tactic ladies. And don’t forget to remember that face. If you see another crime on the news later, your memory might help to solve a crime.
  5. Tell those you love who are your family where you are going – in person – face to face – before you leave the house. If your phone is stolen, you won’t be able to make contact with them later in those first few minutes and it’s important they knew ahead where you were going.
  6. Travel in cities in twos, threes and fours when you are on foot. This is something I always noticed that college women did in Chico California as the popular college town had a long list of unsolved rapes and murders, which meant a perpetrator[s] was most likely still at large. Traveling in small groups when on foot is the safest possible thing you can do. That fact alone will discourage a stalker or would-be thief, as the odds fall for their crime to be a success with each additional person who is traveling with the group. The incidents of rape and murder of young girls and women would drop substantially if they were accompanied by a friend or a family member when they travel in urban settings, public parks, hiking trails, strange cities they don’t know well, or when they travel anywhere outside their personal “comfort zone” in their own towns. It has always alarmed me that parents still allow their school age children to walk to school alone. It’s really NOT safe to do that anymore in this country. If recent headlines haven’t convinced you of this fact, you are asleep at the wheel in your life. Make a way for your school aged children to be accompanied by someone from your front door all the way to school and all the way back home if you cannot do this yourself. It’s the only way you can be sure your child is safe.
  7. Don’t give your Iphone or other smart phone device to your child to play with while you shop. It’s an invitation to theft and even child-napping. Turn the phone off, put it away inside a pant pocket on your person. Never let your child out of your sight either. This should go without saying.
  8. Finally, make a concerted effort to rediscover the good common sense that you have lost or misplaced along the trail in life. Everything I’ve listed here is a function of common sense which needs to be applied when police departments are cutting back everywhere, less officers are on the street, overcrowded prisons are either shutting down completely [ as was the case earlier this year in part of Oregon ] or they are being forced to let loose many dangerous career criminals who should be behind bars. This [ the crime wave] is not going to get better. It’s the final trickle down effect of towns and cities struggling to keep their budgets in the black and their law enforcement agencies staffed. Start thinking pro-actively and defensively about how you move about in the city, and how, or where, or even IF you really must be on the cell phone all the time.

Hang up, pay attention and look around you. It could save your life. Oh yeah and don’t forget to watch out for bears. They sometimes steal Ipads.
