50% of All Thefts in San Francisco Are Smart Phones, National Theft Epidemic Prompts Prosecutors to Push For Smart Phone ‘Kill Switch’

Every year it gets worse.  Innocent people are often maimed for life when they get slashed up during an Iphone robbery. It eventually gets to be “not such a smart idea” to stand on a street corner and use your Iphone. The thefts are not new of course, but they are getting bolder and more frequent. When 50% of all street crime in a given U.S. city [ in this case, San Fran ] is smart phone theft, you know it’s getting really bad. I gathered some video of the escalating trend of smart phone theft from the past few years to illustrate the point. All in all, it becomes a case of “be careful when and where you use it” if you want to keep your face, your life and your Iphone.

SAN FRANCISCO | Wed Jun 5, 2013 9:48pm EDT

(Reuters) – In a push to curb cellphone thefts, prosecutors for New York state and the city of San Francisco said on Wednesday they plan to meet with industry representatives to urge them to install switches to disable stolen smartphones.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said they will meet on June 13 with representatives of the four largest smartphone manufacturers.

They said they will ask the industry to place “kill switches” on mobile devices to render them inoperable when stolen, eliminating any incentive for theft.

“With 1.6 million Americans falling victim to smartphone theft in 2012, this has become a national epidemic,” Gascon said in a statement. “Unlike other types of crimes, smartphone theft can be eradicated with a simple technological solution.”

Gascon and Schneiderman said representatives of Apple Inc, Google Inc’s smartphone maker Motorola Mobility, Samsung Electronics and Microsoft Corp would attend the summit in New York.

Last month, two men in San Francisco severely cut a 27-year-old tourist’s face and throat while robbing his iPhone. In April 2012, a 26-year-old chef was killed while being robbed of his iPhone on his way home to the Bronx.

“The theft of handheld devices is the fastest-growing street crime, and increasingly, incidents are turning violent,” Schneiderman said. “It’s time for manufacturers to be as innovative in solving this problem as they have been in designing devices that have reshaped how we live.”

Representatives for Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Google and a cellphone trade group either declined to comment or were not immediately available for comment.

Gascon and Schneiderman have both criticized the cellphone industry for what they perceive as its perceived unwillingness to solve the escalating problem.

About 50 percent of San Francisco robberies involved stolen mobile devices last year, Gascon said. A recent study found that lost and stolen cellphones cost consumers $30 billion in 2012, his office said.

Some companies have measures in place to reunite smartphones with their rightful owners. For instance, Apple has the application Find My iPhone which allows a user to track a missing device on a map and remotely lock it or erase data.

A nationwide database has been created for stolen cellphones, but law enforcement officials say its use is limited because many stolen devices are shipped overseas or modified so they cannot be easily identified as stolen, according to a New York Times report from May.

3 New Suspects Arrested in Relation to the Boston Bombing

3 more suspects taken into custody in Boston bombing case, police say

Three new suspects have been charged in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing for conspiring to get rid of an incriminating backpack full of gutted fireworks belonging to their friend after learning he was a suspect in the April 15 terror attack, according to an FBI affidavit released Wednesday.

Dias Kadyrbayev, Azamat Tazhayakova and Robel Phillipos, all described as friends of Tsarnaev at UMass-Dartmouth, allegedly went to Tsarnaev’s dorm and took a laptop, the backpack and some Vaseline that may have been used in making the deadly pressure cooker bombs that killed three and injured more than 200 at the race. The affidavit filed in support of a complaint said Kadyrbayev was the one who carried out the disposal of the backpack.

“Kadyrbayev knew when he saw the empty fireworks that Tsarnaev was involved in the Marathon bombing,” the affidavit reads. “Kadyrbayev decided to remove the backpack from the room in order to help his friend Tsarnaev avoid trouble.”

The three acted on April 18, three days after the bombing and hours after investigators aired surveillance footage identifying Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan as the suspects in the bombing, though not by name, according to authorities. Phillipos first saw footage depicting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the news Thursday, and told Kadyrbayev over the phone that he suspected their friend was the bomber. When Kadyrbayev later texted Tsarnaev and said he bore a resemblance to the subject of an intense manhunt, Tsarnaev allegedly sent back a chilling response: “Lol, You better not text me.”

The exchange came just before 9 p.m. on April 18, a few hours before the Tsarnaev brothers would carjack a Chinese immigrant, murder an MIT police officer and engage in a wild shootout with police through the streets of Cambridge and Watertown, police say. Tamerlan Tsarnaev died April 19, after a shootout hours after authorities showed the brothers on surveillance video and named them as suspects.

Although the three new suspects initially appear to have stonewalled authorities, Phillipos came clean in a fourth interview, conducted April 26. He confessed that the three took the backpack out of their friend’s dorm room, according to the affidavit.

Prior to the latest development, authorities had named only the brothers as suspects in the bombing at the finish line of the world famous race.

Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov, who are both from Kazakhstan, faced an immigration hearing earlier Wednesday morning, sources said. Phillipos was to be arraigned on the new charges Wednesday afternoon.

Kadyrbayev’s attorney Robert Stahl says his client will be transported to the federal courthouse later Wednesday to appear on new criminal charges. On Friday, Yerlan Kubashev with the Consulate General for Kazakhstan in New York confirmed in a statement to Fox News that the consulate is helping the young men with legal representation.

Kubashev said the two men are “shocked at the bombings,” and “they express sorrow to the bombing victims and their families.”

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is in a prison hospital after being wounded in the shootout with police as he and his brother made their getaway attempt. He is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill, a crime that carries a potential death sentence.

Authorities have searched the Rhode Island home of the parents of Katherine Russell, Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s widow.

Six Months After Hurricane Sandy, Signs of Economic Life Emerging from the Rubble

An insurance adjuster surveys a destroyed property on

It’s been six months since Hurricane Sandy struck the east coast, the second most damaging and ferocious combination hurricane & cold weather front to ever hit the United States. [ Hurricane Katrina has been the only storm to inflict more damage. ]

When the storm struck I blogged and reported on it nonstop for a week. The world was riveted by the sheer size and mass of this behemoth superstorm, which blanketed the entire upper east coast of the United States well into New England, parts of Canada, with storm effects stretching as far south as northern Alabama.

Six months later tens of thousands of people remain homeless or displaced. Others are still living out of boxes and suitcases in hotel rooms across New Jersey and New York state while they battle in out with insurance companies. Any semblance of normal life has been washed away for thousands of families still coping with the red tape nightmare aftermath of trying to rebuild shattered homes and lives. Children’s sense of normalcy and routine has been utterly disrupted in all of this and they often suffer the most.

Many new oddities have emerged as side effects of the hazards wrought by Hurricane Sandy. Used car buyers are cautioned as never before with “Buyer Beware” to try to avoid purchasing a vehicle which may have been partially submerged and water damaged by Sandy. Tens of thousands of automobiles sitting parked on new and used car lots, parked in garages or on the street were submerged in the storm surge deluge when Sandy hit. These vehicles are not a good bet as an auto purchase and articles are being written telling consumers how to avoid these formerly ‘sogged out’ autos by all means when shopping for a car.

In south Jersey shore region of Moonachie and Little Ferry, mold is now the new enemy. Other New Jersey residents are feeling the pinch of escalating double digit increases in the price of property insurance.

Hopeful signs are scattered among the wreckage and detritus left behind by the storm.

1.7 billions dollars in federal HUD block grant money will soon begin to be distributed to communities in New York state affected by the storm.

Writer Katie McFadden of Rockaway New York writes that “Everybody remembers what they were doing on October 29th 2012.”  Six months later residents of Rockaway New York are still struggling to cope with the losses inflicted by the storm, but residents have hope that brighter days are ahead.

Mariners in Barnegat Bay New Jersey report that the bay is fine and the waterways are safe to travel. They are inviting visitors to come and spend a day on the bay.

Tony’s Pier Restaurant in the Bronx New York, will re-open this summer. The popular eatery had been completely destroyed by fire related to hurricane Sandy.

In Suffolk Virginia, Bennett’s Creek Restaurant and Marina has announced plans to re-open soon.
In northeast Ohio, shrubs and evergreens are in high demand as homeowners and businesses rebuild, replant and re-landscape areas destroyed by the storm.

Many Jersey Shore towns are pleased to announce that they are “open for business” six months after Sandy.

Teens from Yonkers New York recently took a field trip to Fire Island to help clean debris still lingering from the storm.
East coast writers are also penning posts wagering that Atlantic City will soon make an economic comeback. Grace Bello, an NBC News contributor, blamed flawed and misleading national news media coverage of hurricane Sandy on the serious slump in visits to Atlantic city since the storm hit:

“Atlantic City casinos were forced to shut their doors on Oct. 28 during the storm. Protected by the dunes, the infrastructure of Atlantic City’s tourist district was barely harmed by Sandy, and the casinos reopened within a week. But national news footage had shown the city’s iconic boardwalk engulfed in waves. Afterward, TV correspondents toured a 50-foot section that lay in splinters. However, media coverage missed that the portion of the boardwalk that suffered was in a residential neighborhood a half-mile away from the last casino on the boardwalk, and had been in disrepair for years.

Nonetheless, according to a November survey by Russel Research, 41 percent of Americans believed Atlantic City’s boardwalk had been destroyed.”

Go Spend Some Money on the Eastern Seaboard This Summer

If you are planning a trip or vacation, consider the east coast this summer.  Why not make plans to visit and spend some time and some money at an east coast resort town in Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware or New York State?  Your money will be well spent, bringing just a little more hope and economic sunshine into the lives of our friends and neighbors back east who are literally rebuilding their livelihoods, often from scratch.  The businesses they are trying to resurrect need your support.  And you might just have the time of your life while you are there.

Facts about Hurricane Sandy

Superstorm Sandy, a hybrid of a hurricane and two cold-weather systems, struck on Oct. 29, concentrating most of its fury on New Jersey, New York and Connecticut and becoming one of the most expensive storms in history. Six months later, the region is still recovering and the scope of the storm has come into sharper focus. Figures are as of April 26.

___

DEATHS:  The National Hurricane Center attributes 72 deaths in the United States directly to Sandy and 87 more indirectly, from causes such as hypothermia due to power outages, carbon monoxide poisoning and accidents during cleanup efforts, for a total of 159.

___

DAMAGE:  The Hurricane Center estimated Sandy’s damage at $50 billion, second only to the $108 billion caused by Hurricane Katrina in Gulf Coast states in 2005. Congress approved more than $60 billion in storm aid for Sandy victims and their communities.

___

HOUSING AID:  The Federal Emergency Management Agency has paid out $959 million for housing assistance and $848 million to communities and nonprofit groups in New York state, and $387.4 million in housing grants and $263 million to communities and nonprofit groups in New Jersey.

___

DISASTER LOANS:  The Small Business Administration has made $1.4 billion in disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses in New York, and $731 million in New Jersey.

___

FLOOD INSURANCE:  The National Flood Insurance Program has paid $3.4 billion in claims in New York, and another $3.3 billion in New Jersey.

___

UTILITIES:  Jersey Central Power & Light says 1.3 million customers lost power in New Jersey. It cut 65,000 trees to help restore power, fixed 34,000 downed wires and put up 6,700 new utility poles. In New York, Consolidated Edison has strung 60 miles of new electrical cable after the storm and eventually restored power to more than 1 million customers.

North Korean Propaganda Video Portrays Nuclear Bombing of American Cities, Video Now Pulled from Youtube

Topographic map of North Korea. Created with G...

Topographic map of North Korea. Created with GMT from SRTM data. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I just watched the propaganda video [ see below at end of this post] and I don’t find this latest in-your-face provocation from North Korea even a little bit funny.

Anyone who reads knows how sickening the present situation is in North Korea, where Kim Jong Un and his family feast extravagantly each night while his entire nation wastes away from starvation.

Un did away with 31 of his closest cabinet and military advisors in order to secure his power after his father died. Following this macabre logic of “worship me or die”, the most secure way to hold onto power would be to kill off the entire nation, then hold court over their graves for the rest of his days.

We have all read the stomach turning  reports: people eating the bark from trees, digging for earth worms, eating rats, and finally, just recently reports began to emerge of starving parents deranged by hunger killing and eating their own children. It’s so far beyond deplorable that there are no words that adequately describe how to respond to such reports. It’s a frontal assault on all human dignity. The institutionalized monarchical madness of the Jong regime needs to end. If there were ever a moment when a “regime change” was needed in a nation, this is that moment.

We all know the United States military would have taken care of this a long time ago, but for the hovering of China over it’s deranged little brother, North Korea, restraining the US from taking the steps necessary to liberate the North Korean people from her decades long nightmare of groveling under generational tyrants.

The US State Department has historically treated North Korea as the red headed stepchild of the world, reacting sternly when it acts out, which is often. North Korea has a long history of instigating high drama military provocations against the US, creating a sense of false crisis with hostile rhetoric and actions, then demanding all kinds of new aid and special deals from the United States in order to “defuse” the make-believe crisis it created in the first place. It’s a well delineated pattern of attempted international blackmail against the US that re-occurs every 8 to 18 months or so. It’s tedious. It’s tiresome.

But now the ongoing “situation” presented by North Korea is getting more serious. Someone somewhere in this tiny isolated nation, which has generationally starved it’s own people into submission to keep them under control, has produced a propaganda video, over dubbed with the elevator music version of Michael Jackson’sWe Are The World” theme, which celebrates the nuclear bombing and destruction of the United States. I think it’s time  for the state department and the US military to begin taking North Korea’s threats MUCH more seriously, MUCH MORE.

Here’s the North Korean propaganda video:

UPDATE: Before I could finish this post and upload the video was removed. I am looking for copies of it now which might still be online. Try this link:

50 States File Petitions to Peacefully Secede from the US, Texas Now at 100,000 Signatures

Electoral map from the 2012 presidential election shows a majority of American counties voted GOP, or red. Many Americans question how Obama could have been re-elected with the literal majority of counties voting GOP. The secession movement which immediately erupted right after the election may be related to many questioning the fairness of the election results. The map would indicate that a minority of states, counties and cities which voted DNC re-elected Barack Obama, a result that would appear to defy precinct results.

Updated Thursday, November 15th 2012

Granted, this is a really strange story and I have no idea what implications it holds for the country. I found the story buried in a list of YT videos last Sunday. At that time 15 states had filed online petitions. The drive to request “secession” began with Texas based secessionist leader Daniel Miller, who has been the most vocal about Texas’s longstanding secession fantasies. By day two 30 more states were represented online at http://petitions.whitehouse.gov with secession petitions. By day three the number went to 37, then 50. There has been practically no TV news coverage of the fledgling “secession movement” and spotty, sporadic coverage of the development on internet news sites. It was because I noted that I chose to follow the development for several days exclusively. Matt Drudge saw what I was seeing, and noted on http://drudgereport.comSecession Movement Explodes” on 11.14.2012. Still not a peep out of the MSM on it. In fact, the airwaves have been so completely dominated by the Patraeus scandal it almost seemed the scandal was being used as a national distraction. Oh but I must be mislead about that. The Big Media outlets would never do that sort of thing, you know, use one big breaking story to hide and obfuscate another one that they don’t want to go any farther. What was I thinking?  🙂 Anyway ….

What this all means is unclear. These petitions are not being filed by state officials. They are being filed by private citizens. The movement has been met with ridicule and open mockery by all kinds of people and pundits lampooning it from all sorts of positions in society. I was parked at my laptop just about 24/7 on “secession” until late yesterday The Daily Caller reported that persons from all 50 states had now filed secession petitions. It wasn’t just critical mass, it was some sort of deluge of extremely unhappy discontented American citizens, and they were obviously expressing their displeasure via petitioning. It’s been the first time in American history that within 10 days of a presidential election that citizens from all 50 states filed petitions to secede from the United States Union. That is HUGE news and there is not a peep being reported about it on mainstream outlets. Doesn’t that bother anyone else? It bothers me so deeply I decided to follow the secession petition movement and nothing else for about 4-5 days.

If readers notice that signature counts on these petitions continue to rise, and yet not a word is reported about this story on MSM news outlets, you had better realize the magnitude of state spo0nsored censorship in effect and understand the implications.

Stories and events that the White House wishes would go away are eliminated from the TV and radio news reporting scripts. That’s social engineering of public opinion via overt censorship. That is another way of suppressing the voice of We the People. And apparently contingencies within “We the People” are really furious, taking out their fury by literally petitioning to secede.

I have no way of knowing what it implies, except that I don’t think it will be a good thing. And I don’t think this is going to go away. In fact, the more Big Media ignores it, the worse it’s going to get, and the more those signature numbers are going to climb. It’s the hard math of national anger that’s getting bigger than “red” or “blue” representation. Late yesterday six states had reached far more than the 25,000 required signatures, and several more were close.

Cited from The Daily Caller:

White House ‘secede’ petitions reach 675,000 signatures, 50-state participation

I won’t be doing more updates on signature counts, but will let readers follow counts in their respective states from the DC website http://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions/
Earlier this week I reported:

Cited:  The leader of a secessionist group in Texas said Tuesday that a petition on the White House website to separate the state from the nation is growing in popularity because the “union has fundamentally changed.”

“The fact of the matter is, that there cannot be a union between those that esteem the principles of Karl Marx over the principles of Thomas Jefferson.”

To date, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina have all reached the 25,000 signatures needed to warrant an official response from the Obama White House. On 11.14.2012 the states of Idaho, Maryland, Washington and Connecticut filed secession petitions, bringing the total number of states to 37.

Earlier this week I wrote:

It’s been a hectic 48 hours. On Sunday afternoon I spotted a YT video that reported citizens from 15 states had petitioned to peacefully secede from the United States. “Odd news item,” was my only thought. I posted it. 24 hours later, the list of petitions had grown to 30 states. Today it’s at 36 states.

Is the Secession Movement Real or Is It Conservative Political Theater?

The sudden state secession petition phenomenon may or may not mean anything other than a very large “pay attention to what we are saying” political foot stomp by conservative voters, but the civil action certainly caught fire fast enough. Texas had acquired their required 25,000 votes within a day and  their petition now has more than 100,000 signatures.

Ron Paul reminded reporters who queried him that the United States originally began with it’s 13 colonies seceding from the British government more than 200 years ago, a point well taken. But one of the biggest conservative political loudmouths in the nation, Sean Hannity, has come out with the cowardly position that although he sympathizes with the petitioners, he does not endorse secession. How odd. Sean Hannity has only been shouting at the top of his lungs his contempt for the “Marxist Socialist Obama administration” [ Hannity’s words ]  since January 20th 2009. I believe Mr. Hannity has now been outed as a true political hypocrite and possibly as spineless as well.

Here’s Sean Hannity speaking on secession in 2009:

Noteworthy is a Supreme Court Case docket from 1869 [ Texas vs. White ] which ruled that states may not secede from the Union, but that ruling is more than 100 years old, and times have obviously changed. I wouldn’t dare wager as to how the Supreme Court would rule on this issue in today’s polarized political climate.

I would advise observers who are naming calling the secession petitioning of states as “racist” to drop the tired adolescent name calling. Anyone who can balance a personal checkbook knows our nation is teetering on the edge of absolute fiscal catastrophe and that has nothing whatsoever to do with race. It does have everything to do with GOVERNANCE [ or the lack thereof. ] I have no reason to believe that Barack Obama will do anything other than continue to turn on the Federal printing presses for four more years to inject enough money into the economy to put on the show of a false economic recovery. I would surmise that many fiscal conservatives, like myself, might sign a secession petition just to make a statement that spending more borrowed money at the multitrillion dollar level is a recipe for the death of the nation.

Cited: “I am completely aware that Election Day was a catalyzing moment, but I do not believe that the underpinnings of this are solely about Barack Obama,” Texas Nationalist Movement president Daniel Miller told POLITICO. “This cake has been baking for a long time — it’s the Obama administration that put the candles on the cake and lit it for us.”

These petitions may possibly set the national stage for an official airing of grievances at least. A possible national election recount is not completely out of the question according to some. You can sign the petition to ask for a national presidential vote recount here.

Serious incidents of voter fraud have turned up in key swing states.

Cited from ‘The Blaze” news blog:

“Is this simply the product of a few thousand discontents in each individual state? Perhaps. But Texas’ petition has over 40,000 signatures, well over the 25,000 necessary to reach the attention of the President. If this turns out to be more than the discontented murmurings of a single state, this story may get ugly.”

A total of 33 States have filed online petitions to peacefully secede from the United States. Keep track of the growing list of states here:  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions

White House may respond to Texas secession petition

Cited:  “The White House may opt out of replying. Under its own rules, “To avoid the appearance of improper influence, the White House may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government in its response to a petition.”

Excerpt from the Texas secession petition:

“The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.”

#Secede and #Secession are trending on Twitter and reports state that Texas is has achieved their 25,000 signature mark with more than 74,000 signatures as of 11.13.2012, thus leading the charge that will require an official response from the Obama White House. You can also follow @TexasTribune for more breaking news on the Texas secession petition.

The Washington Post has now weighed in with news coverage of the secession movement.

CBS News Coverage of States Petitions to Secede

Other thoughts I’ve had on the secession matter …

Maybe alleged time traveler John Titor was right after all. Years ago a mysterious personage began posting messages to Usenet [ remember Usenet? ] telling the internet community that he was a time traveler returning from the future, specifically the year 2036. He told astounded web citizens on Usenet that he had traveled back in time to locate an obscure piece of computer equipment that was desperately needed in the future, and to warn people in the present of certain coming events. Titor told a stunned and frankly disbelieving internet audience that there was a civil war in America’s near future, [ his recent past ] and went on to describe how this conflict ripped the country in half, and what came later.

So you can imagine my astonishment when I found about a half dozen news sites reporting that at least 20 states have filed petitions to secede from the US last night. I’m still not sure if this is a GOP protest prank or a real movement, but the petitions are real. They are posted on the White House website, and at least two of them have more than 10,000 signatures already: Louisiana and Texas.

It’s not difficult to foresee that the financial implications of approaching new Obama regulations, Obamacare and the coming January 1st expiration of Bush tax cuts will all soon converge into an imminent perfect storm of fiscal overload. I think this coming fiscal tsunami is forcing many states to consider drastic options for their own financial and political survival. That may be at least one reason for a fledgling secession movement which has garnered petitions from 33 states to date. I would note also that I have seen news stories indicating some pretty serious voter fraud from November 6th, so many of the petitioners may want a recount of the vote if they feel the 2012 presidential election might have been rigged for Obama. I can only speculate, as all of this is such a sudden new development.

Each state must have at least 25,000 people sign their petitions by December 7th 2012 for the Obama administration to give a response.

Texas has already garnered more than 100,000 signatures as of 11.14.2012. Someone on the internet has already created a speculative “map of the future USA” which shows what a fractured union might look like. The map fails to factor in that both California and Oregon have filed petitions to secede and their signature counts are rising. The map is a sad looking sight, and I hope it doesn’t come to this. An airing of political grievances over voter fraud is one thing. A recount request is reasonable. A 21st century war of recession is a horrible prospect.

Hurricane Sandy Aftermath: Eating Out of Trash Bins, Long Bus Lines, Coming Unglued Over Gas

List of Gas Stations that CURRENTLY Have Lots of Regular Unleaded GAS

Real human suffering, shattered communities and frayed nerves are emerging from the weather catastrophe of hurricane Sandy. Tensions are running high in New York state, New Jersey and Connecticut, the three states hardest hit by power outages from hurricane Sandy. The Business Insider reports that at least 49,000 New Yorkers are trapped inside apartment buildings and still without electric power.

In NYC commuters wait for up to three hours every day to board buses to get to work. Huge crowds mill around bus stations and the lines stretch out behind them for blocks on end.

For many on the east coast who literally lost everything they owned in the storm, hunger is already a real and urgent issue.

Among the most nerve rattling stories are alleged incidents along the upper east coast that the residents of wealthier neighborhoods are having their electric power restored first, while working class families in poorer neighborhoods languish without electricity or heat for the fifth straight day since the storm hit. Both Bridgeport Connecticut and Staten Island residents allege this is taking place and they are furious over it. It also hasn’t exactly been a popular idea among the residents of New York’s Staten Island that while they literally pillage through restaurant rubbish bins for food that Mayor Bloomberg has decided to go ahead with the New York Marathon. Bloomberg’s reasoning is that NYC needs the income boost that the marathon will bring. Grocery stores have spiked prices on many items to 3 or 4 times their normal cost.

Long gas lines and gasoline rationing is part of the aftermath in New York state, New Jersey and Connecticut. Five to ten gallons of gas per person is now the limit. For a huge SUV that will put about a quarter of a tank of gas in the car. Many station owners stated they have “gas in the ground” but no electricity to operate pumps to get to it. “Panic buying” of gas has only exacerbated the situation. Gasoline lines stretched literally for miles along with tedious waits of over two hours to get the pump only to find you could not fill up but could only put five or ten gallons of gas in the tank. Many people ran out of gas on the way to the station and vehicles were seen being pushed for several miles by groups of people to make it in for gas. In Queens New York a frustrated motorist pulled a gun on another motorist while in waiting in line for gas. State Troopers have been deployed to keep the peace at many stations. About half the gasoline stations in the upper east coast region are still closed and without power or enough fuel to reopen.

The quest for gas has many people going online for tips on where gas can be found in their regions:

“Nov 2 (Reuters) – Looking for gas in places that have been hit hard by Sandy? Instead of waiting in line, go online.

Crowd sourcing is the best way for drivers who are looking to fill up their tanks or get fuel for generators to find the most up-to-the-minute information.

On Twitter, some hashtags to find gas include: #njgas, #nygas, #nycgas and #brooklyngas. In addition, you can follow the Twitter accounts of @GasBuddy and @njgas. Other Twitter handles such as @brooklyngas and @nygas don’t have many followers – but, as of Friday morning – were pumping out information. (Pun intended.)

A caveat: Stations run out of fuel quickly.

“As soon as someone gives us a lead, they follow it and get there, and there’s not always gas,” says Michael Sandler, a lawyer who started the @njgas Twitter account earlier this year to monitor gas prices in his area.

Sandler advises gas-hungry consumers to avoid rest stops on major highways. It’s not worth it to wait three hours in line, he says.”

Documentary Film “2016: Obama’s America” Goes Viral, #1 Best Selling DVD in America

We all deserved a more thorough vetting of Barack Obama in the months leading up to his announcement of his candidacy for president in 2008. It didn’t happen. No one in Big Media seems to be able or capable of explaining to the American people exactly WHY it didn’t happen.

For more information visit http://2016themovie.com

This was the first time in the history of the presidency that a man about whom so little was known rose to political super stardom with no official investigation by the US media into his background, his past affiliations, his college transcripts, or his actual deeply held personal beliefs.

I find that fact alone the most suspicious red flag of the many troubling omens in Obama’s sudden political ascendancy. Under the first four years of Obama’s term in office unemployment has soared, cities and towns have battled bankruptcy, student loan debt has soared, housing values have plummeted, and our food stamp recipient population went from 32 million Americans to 47 million Americans. With these grim facts representing the first four years of his term in office, it’s only prudent to try to imagine what America might look like after four more years of Barack Obama.

That’s exactly what well known filmmakers Dinesh D’Souza, and Jim Hannon have done. Their documentary “2016: Obama’s America” is going viral and for good reason. The portrait painted of what the year 2016 might look like under Obama’s second term in office ought to give ever American pause as we head into the final days of the 2012 election campaign and prepare to vote for the man we choose to lead the nation during the next four years. Several of the trailers for the documentary have already garnered nearly a million views. The 2016 DVD is the #1 Best selling DVD in the country this fall.
